Our daughter Brittany Rebecca Helton was born on July 3, 1991 and was the
bright sunshine of her parents Ronald and Christine Helton's lives and so many others. Brittany made the choice
to end her life on August 4, 2010 and we will forever have a missing piece within our hearts and souls. There was never a
day that would go by that Brittany wouldn’t find a way to make everyone around her smile or laugh, which brought
so many lives joy, even till this day. She was a very talented writer and would always do her best at whatever activity she
was involved in and would always see any task presented to her until its completion. Don’t misunderstand us, because
there were moments of battles over her very messy bedroom or shoes left in front of the door and wish with every fiber
of our beings that we could once again have such trivial battles once again. However, Brittany to everyone was the fun-loving,
freckle faced girl who would do the "Hammer Time Dance" with her cousin Sara, wear mismatched socks, or befriend
someone sitting alone.
Brittany, did not like
labels, and would not want us to focus on her moment of darkness, but instead help others see life is worth living even when
we feel like there is nothing left to live for.
So, we as her parents, are dedicated to educating
communities on suicide prevention, but most of all, that each individual had a life and are not just a statistic or label.
Can you imagine if we all
would just stop and ask the simple question of, "ARE YOU ALL RIGHT", may help to change the world one individual
at a time. We know deep in our hearts that if our daughter Brittany Rebecca Helton could have looked into the future and seen
the devastation and sorrow her death caused, her family and friends every single day; she would not have taken her own life
and wouldn't want anyone else to either. So please call 1(800)273-8255(TALK) if you or anyone you may know is contemplating
self harm or suicide.
